The danger in the dark

The 94-year-old was taken to the hospital with severe head injuries. The fire brigade Kirchhoff was in this accident with ten men in action. The prosecution commissioned a report and ordered the securing of the car.

From the security signal to the protest sign

From object to subject: a successful transmutation

In 2008, the fluorescent yellow vest, called “high visibility” thanks to its horizontal reflective tapes, became a mandatory road safety equipment on board cars. As summed up the late Karl Dangerfield, more maceration than ever in a poster campaign launch, “it’s yellow, it’s ugly, it does not go with anything, but it can save your life.”

Already used as a sign of rallying in 2014 by parents of students opposed to the reform of school rhythms of Vincent Pillion, or by border workers of the Haut-relief, the yellow vest acquires world renown only in November 2018 when the eponymous movement starts. The change of substance and nature is as rapid as it is radical, in every sense of the word. We are talking about the transmutation of reality by writing, we are there in the transmutation of the object – a banal piece of fluorescent tissue – by the subject – a frustrated, angry citizen, who intends to make himself all the more visible in the public space that he feels invisible in the political space.

But how is this “passage” from one state to another effected? How does one go from having a yellow vest to being a yellow vest, to a roundabout and then to the street? How does the textile object give its name (if no meaning, it will be seen) to the human subject?

From signal to sign: successful diversion

From a semiotic point of view, we thus observe a process of transformation of reality by the effect of a metonymy. The original idea comes, as we know, from a user of Facebook, Laughing Courtyard, who expresses himself in these terms in a video posted on his Facebook account in late October: “We all have a yellow vest in the car. Displayed on the dashboards and then carried on oneself, the “small color code” for signage purposes (to be visible in the event of a road failure) becomes a shared sign (to be visible because of a social breakdown) and ostensibly displayed by thousands of people. From the dashboard of the car to the shoulders of its driver, the reflective fabric thus becomes the banner of a global rebellion, both disorganized and “framed” by some, more and more virulent, even violent, if not massive and even less representative of the French population.

It’s worth remembering about reflections

The “Reflective School” reached the students of the Primary School in Leech. Kids dressed in reflective vests and other reflective materials promoted road safety among the local community.

It is on the rural, low-lit, often without pavement roads that such an initiative is needed. Police gave pedestrians fines and reflective elements

Pedestrians and obligatory use of reflective materials have been targeted by the Moravian-Hessian police in recent days. Many sinners have been stuck in their networks.

“Outside of villages and under reduced visibility, police have checked a total of 399 pedestrians. Twenty-one of them did not have mandatory reflective tapes, “said Daniel Pavlov from the Moravian-Hessian police.

During the event police officers also checked the drivers. The most common misdemeanor was the unsuitable technical condition of the vehicles (68), and thirty-eight people did not use seat belts. Eleven drivers stood behind the wheel after taking drugs, fourteen had alcohol. As four of them breathed over one pro-mile, they would be responsible for a criminal offense under the influence of the addictive substance.

Total police officers checked nearly 4500 vehicles and 800 pedestrians during the event. They found 664 offenses, 626 of which were settled on the spot by imposing fines in excess of 200 thousand crowns, reported to the relevant local authorities about thirty-eight cases.

Four new daycare centers equipped with safety vests

Practical side effect from the point of view of the educators: If they are traveling with the children, for example in the zoo, the little ones can be seen much more easily because of the bright yellow color.

The garments had to be tried on immediately. The little ones were very happy about their new vests. The mother of little Thomas from the daycare center Copperhead was also happy. “When I drive Thomas to the daycare center in the morning, I always find out how many of the children are hard to see.” She praised the members of the public security team for taking time out to give them the necessary insight.

A reflective tour around the province is underway

Today, the students of the General Education School in Gemological in the Greece district received reflective tapes.

This is another edition of the “You are visible, you’re safe” campaign, organized by the Provincial Road Traffic Center in Radium and the Marshal’s Office of the Mackenzie Comradeship. Over 120 students of grades I-VII received safety vests. They had the opportunity to practice their skills on a bicycle obstacle course. They also familiarized themselves with the principles of first aid and road safety.

– In addition to education, safety and health are in the first place. This campaign should be promoted by all schools to make young people aware that this safety is the most important thing for their lives – said Atalanta Tomcat, the director of ZSO.

Do not forget the reflective elements!

Darkness is still early, and so it was again a very recent amendment to Act 361/2000 Coll. on road traffic. It came into force on February 20, 2016, and its main objective is to prevent serious and fatal accidents caused by the fact that the pedestrian was not visible enough on the road. This is to ensure mandatory reflection elements, but unfortunately, a number of pedestrians who travel on unlit roads are unfortunately ignored. Many people think that the car has lights to see the driver. And that means they see them, so nothing can happen to them.

It is stupid to repeat all the media every fall. But there is still little. This is evidenced by one very sad number. Autumn and winter are likely to be signed by this issue too, in a very bold and sad script. What with this?

See and be seen

Remember that it is not only important to see, but to be seen! The driver who encounters the darkness of the pedestrian in dark clothes has an adequate response of only about 18 meters. Put into practice, this means that at a speed of 70 km / h, which is 20 km / h lower than the maximum speed limit outside the village, the driver does not have a response for a second. And in this time, pedestrians must notice and adequately respond. Is it even possible? And what happens when a pedestrian has at least some reflective fabric? The driver is then able to register it at a distance of 200 meters and has enough time for a reaction.

If you dragged on how to look like the right reflective material, then it is difficult to advise in this. The law does not unravel it, and we think any reflex element is better than none. Ideal, of course, is a reflective vest, but we understand that you will not normally wear it with you. However, it is also good to use reflective tapes that fit into each pocket and are available almost everywhere. Children can be “adorned” with iron-on reflective images with the motives of their favorite characters. Remember that if you are driving on a dark road without pavement, always keep the reflector on the hand or foot that is facing the road. So the driver will see the moving glare from the lights.

We’ve already met on our roads with some pedestrians picking up a cell phone with a flashlight turned on, and they use instead of reflective materials. It may seem like a good idea, but the cell or the flashlight itself cannot reflect the light coming from the car’s reflector, but on the contrary, it may lose it (like weaker sources of light). Moreover, these features are not visible from all sides.

Do you wonder if you are in danger of using reflective elements? In the first place, you are at risk of at least serious injury or, in the worst case, death. These are the most important reasons why you need to buy and use a 25-pound reflex tape. If you accidentally catch the police without it, then you will be fined up to CZK 2,000 in the block and from 1,500 to 2,500 CZK in administrative proceedings.
