The police cycling museum highlights the missing reflectors

A two-member police cycling tour, which takes part in the preventive event in the South Moravian Region, bikers most often draw attention to the missing reflective vests. ČTK said the police preventer Rocha. Today, cyclists were able to meet in Becalm region.

The patrol on business bicycles within the event runs throughout the territory of the South Moravian Region. Cyclists highlight the correct wheel alignment, visibility, and safe road traffic rules. Cyclists have been able to meet her before, for example, around Rocha.

“When we go to the event, we will drive about 20 to 30 kilometers a day, but we stop very much and talk to people,” Rocha said. With cyclists trying to talk about safe movement along the cycle path, considerations, discuss with them the mandatory equipment. “We all recommend a bicycle helmet, although adults are not obliged to do it, and they are very pleased to use it in most cases, and most of the mandatory equipment is lacking orange hi vis vest in wheelbase,” said a police officer. These reflectors are also missing from some new wheels that are otherwise fully equipped.

Since it is prevention, the patrol is only a positive response from a police officer. And even those who do not have a good round will receive a smaller gift, such as a reflective tape or a stick or a leaflet. “Do not forget to miss something on the bike,” she said.

The bicycle park does not forget pedestrians, which also emphasize the importance of safe movement and the importance of reflective material. It should ride along the paths of the South Moravian Region around early September.

The fines that risk motorists who do not wear reflective vests

From January 1, the security kits of all cars must have this element. A regulation entered into force obliging all motorists to incorporate a retro reflective vest into the safety kit of their vehicle.

The measure seeks that drivers are not exposed to accidents or collisions when getting off their cars to repair any damage, especially if this happens at night or in situations where there is little visibility. If this reflective device is not available, motorists will be exposed to a minor fault, whose fine ranges from 0.2 to 0.5 UTM (from around 10 thousand to 22,500 pesos).

Where should the reflective vest be worn?

The vest -which must contain fluorescent and retro reflective material has to go in a place that is accessible from inside the vehicle, such as the glove box. According to the National Traffic Safety Commission, in the last ten years, 6,000 people have been killed in the country.

Running in the rain with a Craft Repel Reflective Jacket

Craft introduces the Repel Reflective Jacket, a light, thin and smooth running jacket for training in cold and rainy weather. This makes running in the rain even finer.

The jacket is made of durable reflective fabric and elastic material and consists of 3 layers with a technical membrane that ensures an optimal balance between protection and ventilation. It has a casual and contemporary design for the fashion-conscious athlete.

Wind and waterproof

The Repel Jacket is wind- and waterproof and specially equipped with openings on perspiration zones for extra ventilation and taped seams in vulnerable places. Thanks to the stretchable fabric, the jacket offers optimal freedom of movement in all directions. The reflective material panels provide a 360 degree reflection on the garment so you are always visible.

My neon bike is reflection and safely

There were the wooden bicycles, the recycled bikes, the electric bikes: here is now the phosphorescent bike with reflective material!

The bike is certainly a means of transport very practical and ecological, it does not prevent that its practice remains a little risky. To navigate the traffic, contacts with cars unfortunately become sometimes inevitable. In addition, at night, the risks increase significantly, so much so that since 2008, the reflective vest has become mandatory cycling at night or insufficient visibility, out of town. While a cyclist without a vest is spotted only at a distance of 30 meters, a reflective vest allows apprehending him at more than 150 meters and therefore to react accordingly. Taken in default of wearing the vest, a cyclist is even liable to a fine of 35 Euros.

And if the bike itself could signal its presence in the middle of the night? This is the case of the bicycle called “The kilo”, whose frame is entirely phosphorescent. He is the first model of the Glow line (in French: “glow”, “brightness”, “light” …) of the manufacturer. A manufacturer who has a special bond with ethics, since he goes as far as creating certain lines of bicycles especially for causes that are close to his heart: pink bicycles whose profits are donated to the fight against cancer, green bikes that will finance ecological projects…

None of this for the Kilo just an original model that every sweet transport enthusiast should instantly fall in love with the reflective elements. We in any case, we validate!

Reflective elements have been a responsibility for pedestrians

Pedestrians who drive on the road in the dark or diminished visibility must also wear reflective vest for the year. Police sometimes even check and distribute fines. However, the effort was paid off. According to statistics, the number of pedestrians killed outside the village has fallen. Still, there are those who walk on the roads without reflective elements. In addition, some will pay for it for life.

Last Friday, 2 September, the Czech police officers received reports from the driver. He drew attention to the unlit pedestrian who was on the roadside. He could not see it, but fortunately, he could avoid it at the last minute. It was too late before the police arrived. A sixty-year-old man on the road between Bola and Doisy hit the car. He died on the spot. Tragic events would most likely prevent a man from reflect himself on the road. It is the year that you have a year on Czech pedestrian roads. In addition, the statistics show that their use has been eliminated by just such tragic events as happened.

In the year 2016, 111 pedestrians died in traffic accidents. This is about 20 more victims than in 2015. It also started better this year, when seven pedestrians died in January, compared to 11 in 2015 and 2016. “The decrease in tragic pedestrian accidents is only outside the village, while in the villages the number of their victims was the same as in 2015, except for 20 people less than last year,” says Martin, head of BESIP.

Although the reflective material for pedestrians outside the community is obligatory, accidents occur when people are not wearing them. “Every accident is specific and we can hardly generalize that these people would live if they had reflective elements but would certainly have a better chance of surviving,” explains Martin. According to BESIP, it is shown that reflective elements can reduce the risk of a pedestrian accident by up to ten times under impaired visibility.

Moreover, the statistics show that the number of pedestrians who died after the accident in the village increased by four, while outside the village, where people would wear reflective elements, the number of pedestrians killed dropped by 10. The duty is still valid for the day visibility. Under such conditions, no one died in 2016, but three people a year earlier. BESIP supports wearing reflective elements of the campaign called “Do We See?” It informs you about the dangers that pedestrians are losing sight of. In addition to the cops, he has already given out a million reflective tapes.

Obvious reflections for pedestrians on outside built-up areas

From August 31, every pedestrian moving along the roads outside the built-up area will have to equip themselves with reflective material. The police will be able to punish the pedestrian with a mandate for lack of required reflections.

The amendment to the road traffic law will come into force on the last day of holidays. Goal is to increase pedestrian safety, and at the same time to reduce the number of fatal accidents. Until now, the regulations for the obligatory use of reflections after dark outside built-up areas concerned persons under the age of 15. Everyone will now be regulated, without exception.

The holidays are over and the school year begins any day. What does it mean? In addition to the density of cars on the streets, the number of pedestrians moving outside the built-up area will increase significantly. An unspecified stroller combined with faster and faster dusk – these are often the main reasons for the tragic events on the roads. Many pedestrians also move on the wrong side of the road.

Pedestrians are often forced to move outside built-up areas, in places without lighting, sidewalks or even shoulders. They move along the edge of the road. Even if they follow the right, left side of the road, but do not have reflective elements: vests, braces, bands – their visibility is limited to only 30 meters. For a driver driving 90 km / h, it is too short a distance for reaction and effective avoidance of such a person – explains the younger aspirant Joanna.

After sunset, the visibility of the pedestrian is very limited. Thanks to the vests, the drivers will be able to see people walking from nearly 120 meters. Remember that the permitted speed of cars moving outside the built-up area is 90 km / h. On dry asphalt at such a speed, the distance from the moment of braking to the complete stop of the vehicle will be extended to nearly 80 meters. It is scary to think about the length of the car driving on the wet road.

If the pedestrian does not comply with the regulations – the police will be able to impose on him a fine of 20 to even 500 PLN. Just look at last year’s statistics, which clearly present the scale of danger. In 2013, 9.5 thousand were recorded on Polish roads. accidents involving pedestrians, in which 1147 people were killed. For nearly 9,000 the injured parties ended up with injuries. The most tragic month was November, when 159 pedestrians died.

It is worth educating and making aware of how big a danger on the road is an invisible pedestrian. A simple, ordinary reflector is always worth having with you, even if you are moving in built-up areas – he adds. It is worth to buy reflective elements. The price of the set: reflective band and vest should not exceed PLN 10. The costs of treatment are disproportionately higher.

Reflective bands or what can be useful for running at night

When you are riding a bicycle or running at night, take care of your own safety. Visibility on the road will be provided by clothing with reflectors or special stickers, reflective tapes or wristbands. The obligation to illuminate the bicycle results from the rules of the Highway Code.

Bands, ribbons, stickers or reflective vests can be bought in hypermarkets, bicycle, automotive and sports shops, via the Internet or even at petrol stations. Single reflections cost about 2-6 zlotys. A reflective vest costs about 10 zlotys.

Running in the dark – clothes, tapes, reflective bands

A smaller crowd in the streets or lack of time to train during the day, there are some of the reasons for running at night. Deciding to be active after dark, you need to take care of your own safety. Visibility on the road will provide glare. Useful accessories for runners include, for example, reflective wristbands or self-adhesive tapes that can be applied to clothing. When buying sportswear (pants, jackets, blouses, sweatshirts), it is worth choosing models that already have reflective material on them. Stickers reflecting light on your legs or arms will make the runner visible to the car driver from a distance of 200 meters.

Running at night through the woods – a running torch

The headlamp will be useful during night training on uneven and completely unlit terrain, eg in the forest. The lamp is mounted on the head, you do not need to hold it in your hands while running, it s light falls exactly in front of the runner. It is good to stock up on spare batteries. It is best to go for training in a group, and if it is impossible, run only on paths that you met during the day. It is also worth mentioning to the family or roommates where to go and have GPS enabled in the phone. It is best to run in the forest when it is dry. Turning over on slippery mud or leaves may result in injury.

Bicycle lighting – recipes

The most important element of bicycle equipment at night is lighting. A cyclist who uses the road is obliged to comply with road rules. According to the Highway Code, a bicycle should be equipped with at least one position light at the front (white or selective yellow). At the rear, the vehicle must have a position lamp and a reflector lamp in a shape other than a triangle. Both rear bicycle lights should be red. To be more visible on the road at night, the cyclist can also put on a headlamp. You just need to remember that it cannot be mounted lower than 25 centimeters and more than 1.5 meters from the road surface.

Does the cyclist have to wear a vest?

In the light of road traffic law, a reflective vest is not mandatory during cycling. However, the cyclist should have reflective details on the clothing or helmet, eg stickers, tapes, bands. Light-reflective stickers can be additionally wrapped, for example, with pedals or bicycle wheels.

Riding a bicycle without lights – a ticket

A ride on a motorbike without lights may result in a fine. For riding a bike after dark or in tunnels without proper lighting of the vehicle, the police officer may issue a fine of PLN 100.

The Ultra Gore-Tex jacket with reflective elements

The new Ultra Gore-Tex Shaker incorporates a patent-pending Zip Over system on the back that allows the backpack to be comfortably carried under the safety jacket.

Endurance sports brand presents the second generation of its functional two-layer jacket by Gore-Tex Active Shell with the innovative Shaker technology. Until now, the constant rubbing of the backpack could impair the performance of the membrane. To put an end to this limitation, Dynamic’s textile designers have developed a solution: the new Ultra Gore-Tex Shaker incorporates a patent-pending Zip Over system on the back that allows the backpack to be comfortably carried under the jacket.

In the summer season of 2017, Gore’s textile engineers caused a stir with their new laminate with Shaker technology. This laminate is composed of two layers: a waterproof membrane on the outside and a light woven lining on the inside. On the other hand, the outer textile layer disappears and it is the same membrane serves as the outer skin. The Shaker technology ensures that the water on the surface slides permanently and can be shaken, without causing annoying impregnation.

Thanks to the design in two layers, it is possible to reduce the weight considerably without sacrificing functionality. However, this Gore-Tex material, which is currently the lightest and most breathable on the market, has a limitation: it is not recommended to use a backpack with reflective material, since the performance of the membrane could be altered by constant friction. The response to this challenge from Dynamite endurance sports specialists is both simple and intelligent.

The indispensable backpack for long races will be under the jacket. The Ultra Gore-Tex jacket Shaker Jacket 150 incorporates a backpack system on the back. When necessary, the fitted jacket can be expanded with a zipper closure and the additional material offers enough space to comfortably carry a small backpack under the jacket. This principle also offers the advantage that the backpack is protected from the wind and the weather, while saving the runner the time to put on and take off the backpack every time he wants to do the same with the jacket.

In case of training without a backpack, the garment can shrink back in the blink of an eye and is adjusted to the body without the excess material limiting the freedom of movement of the runner. The new Ultra Gore-Tex Shaker Jacket 150 weighs an amazing 150 grams in the model for men and 138 grams in the model for women, which marks new milestones in the ultra light category. The jacket is windproof and thanks to its water column of 28,000 millimeters, offers total comfort and protection against the weather. In addition, as it also has a high breathability, it is the perfect complement for a variety of sports disciplines in the background and long distance, without having to put it on and take it off constantly.

With its patches that favor the transport of moisture, the so-called Active Airflow Ventilation, laser-perforated areas under the arms, provides additional ventilation. For its design, the product developers thought of minimalist equipment that would reduce the weight and volume as much as possible. The jacket is provided with a zipper along the entire front and elastic waistbands. The hood has an aerodynamic and tight design, has a small-reinforced area to ensure optimal visibility and can adjust its width with a single pull.

This functional minimalist jacket is completed with reflective bands on the sleeves and the back area, so that the athlete is more visible in bad weather or in the dark. Folded inside the hood, the Ultra Gore-Tex Shaker Jacket 150 fits perfectly in any backpack and even in the pocket of the pants.

The cat that steals the eyes with his reflective vest

The particular feline returned to vitalize in social networks in recent days. He arrived at the work when he barely eight days old and quickly gained the love of all.

“Black” is the name of the cat that in recent days has returned to vitalize in social networks for his particular attire: A reflective vest that accompanies him on a construction site.

Last August, Estella de Antofagasta told the story of this charming feline who stole the love of those who work on the project “Puerto Buenos,” a future urban center that is built next to the current mall in the northern city.

As they said at the time, this little kitten received his first attire with reflective tape “from the hands of the cleaning lady” to protect him in the middle of the works.

“Black” arrived at the work when he barely had eight days. “Among the guards we gave him milk and he made himself a gift from here,” said Eugenio Euglena, a local worker.

The construction of “Puerto Buenos” will conclude in the second semester of 2017 so they are already wondering what the destiny of the beloved “Black” will be. The reflective material is a good protection for it. Don Eugenio himself told the regional media: “There are several people who want to take him, they grab him affection, and he is well-adjusted with all the people.”

Good reflective signage would prevent many accidents

Last year was the first since 1989 when the number of traffic accident victims increased. A figure that had been decreasing non-stop for 13 years and that, apparently, thanks to the fact that the crisis overcome, has caused it to grow again.

Because the action protocol establishes that, in case of suffering a breakdown or accident, the obstacle in the road must be signaled for what the driver must put on the reflective vest when leaving the vehicle, mount the triangles, and place them. This procedure involves the risk of walking along the shoulder of the road for at least 50 meters. Then you can return to the vehicle to make a call and receive assistance.

The protocol that establishes the current road safety regulations causes many accidents to occur in areas with poor visibility, given that a large number of drivers do not know that, in case of vehicle immobilization by accident, it is not mandatory to put the triangles if the conditions to perform this action are not safe.

The long signaling process is compounded by the lack of lighting on the roads: 90% of accidents take place on roads with insufficient light. In addition, 40% of road accidents are electrical faults that prevent the use of warning and / or wired devices to signal the vehicle before placing the triangles, with the danger involved.

In that task of reducing traffic victims, innovation has a lot of work to do. Over the last few years, numerous solutions have made a great advance in the prevention and reduction of road accidents. If the belt represented a before and after in the reduction of victims due to traffic accidents, the importance of the airbag or the child restraint seats should not be overlooked. In the same way, you want to contribute Help Flash, a reflective material and lighting device to signal emergencies on the road without having to leave the vehicle.

Now the startup of Galician origin aims to make available to all drivers a device specially designed for breakdowns at night and in conditions of low visibility, which makes the vehicle visible up to 1 kilometer away. Its mode of operation is very simple, in case of a stop due to breakdown or accident it is enough to place it on the roof on the outside of the vehicle in contact with the sheet and, thanks to its magnetic activation, it will start up. Help Flash is a signaling device for legal use, compatible with current road safety regulations and with usage autonomy of more than 2 and a half hours in emergency mode.

It is, therefore, a device of special interest for vulnerable groups at the wheel such as the elderly, pregnant women, people with reduced mobility or disability, or motorists, who do not have a signaling system.
