As time progresses, we have a full autumn and a shorter day with it and dark and dark evenings. We have nothing left for the runners to confront the situation and move to the dark side of power – to start running in the dark. Whatever we spend a few miles in the morning before going to work or coming from it in the evening, we will probably not avoid the dark ruler on our favorite tracks – the darkness. Let’s test one of the reflective vests to increase your passive safety!

Reflective clothing – reflective clothing becomes mandatory in certain situations for pedestrians in the Czech Republic. A pedestrian – codec must then wear safety vest – reflective vest, a reflective stripe – reflective tape or other reflective elements – reflective elements on clothes.

 

In addition, that applies in the dark, rain, or fog on streets, which have neither sidewalk – footpath nor lighting. Reflective clothing is made of a material that reflects light, the light that comes from a headlight, that is, a reflector. The reflection significantly increases the visibility of the pedestrian, and therefore motorists – overlook, do not so easily overlook it.

 

Reflecting means reverberating, a reflection is okras. In philosophy the reflection reflexes means the perception of one’s own mental activity, sometimes it is used as a synonym for reflection – thinking and reflection – reasoning. A consideration is called in Czech treatise or reflexes.

People is obliged to use reflective material at dusk

Every pedestrian, moving around the dusk along the way outside the built-up area, is obliged to use reflective material – such a provision is included in the amended Act on Road Traffic, which entered into force on Sunday.

 

Until now, only children under the age of 15 had the obligation to wear reflections. Now it has been extended to all pedestrians who will move around the dusk outside the built-up area. The pedestrian will be able to move without reflective elements at dusk only on the road intended exclusively for him or on the sidewalk or in the residential area, where the pedestrian takes precedence over the vehicle.

 

From Sunday, persons who do not comply with the new regulations may face a fine of 20 to 500 zlotys. Baronies, president of the Partnership for Road Safety stressed that this is a very important amendment. It is good that for the first time such a change appeared in the law, because shaping awareness is one thing, and the legal requirement is second and good if the legal requirement coincides with that awareness – he said.

 

He remarked, however, that a lot of work was still needed to make society aware of the importance of the problem. It is not just about fulfilling the duty and wearing any kind of reflection, just to wear something that is actually visible, that is, a sufficiently large, appropriately good quality material – he added.

 

The police officers, who are hardly visible to the driver, point out that the pedestrian, who moves on a dark road without reflections, is practically invisible. The driver is able to notice such a person only from a distance of 20-30 meters. However, if the pedestrian has reflective tapes, the driver can already see it from over 150 m.

Police officers distributed vests and reflectors to cyclists

Motorcycle Club, along with officers from the local police headquarters, carried out an action on the safety of cyclists under the slogan “Stay safe on the road” at the city marketplace.

 

Within it, cyclists received safety vests and reflective elements – informs Ursula, a representative of the police.

 

The uniforms warned that the autumn period, and consequently the early dusk, rainfall and thick fog caused the safety of vulnerable road users to be at risk. Lack of proper lighting of the bicycle and reflective tapes causes that both cyclists and the drivers do often not see pedestrians. This is particularly true outside the built-up area.

 

A spokesperson of the Communist party reminds that according to traffic regulations, pedestrians on the road after dusk outside the built-up area should be equipped with reflective material. Their absence exposes them not only to the penalty, but also to the danger of losing health and life.

The police gave walkers reflective vests

During the service, they still reach people who, outside the built-up area, move around at dusk without any reflective material. On Monday, Elblag police officers had reflective vests for them.

 

Traffic police officers carried out activities under the name NURD yesterday. This abbreviation means unprotected road users. This time, in addition to carrying out the controls, police officers were handing out reflective vests to pedestrians – informs Commissioner Krzysztof Nowak, a press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Elblag.

 

The main objectives of Monday’s police action are to protect pedestrians and to make them aware of the importance of visibility on the road. We acquired the reflective vests and thanks to that, we could make such a pedestrian gift for the actions of traffic police officers – he says. These vests will also be given away during subsequent actions.

 

The police officers still go to people who move around outside the built-up area without any reflective elements. In addition, now you can receive a ticket for an offense. Only during one day, we found 6 such people. Dark clothes are often found here and … misfortune is ready. We encourage you to wear reflectors in the city, not all places are well lit, and reflections significantly increase the visibility of the pedestrian.

 

It is worth recalling that after dark a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver only from a distance of about 40 meters. However, a walking person wearing reflective clothing becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters! These extra meters allow the driver to slow down and safely bypass the pedestrian – adds Nowak.

Reflective vest protect the cyclists safe

As part of the “MY BICYCLE – MY LIFE” activities, the uniforms and inhabitants of the Wanaka commune took part in the bike rally, 12 April.

 

It is well known that the form of learning through play is best remembered by the youngest. Participants of the project could see for themselves, and many attractions awaited them. We started with a short theory lesson. The police officers paid attention to the need to use reflective material and to comply with the provisions of the two-wheeler. They discussed the most common offenses committed by unprotected road users, gave tips on how to proceed to be safe on the road. The mayor also appealed for reason and prudence. After the lecture, the police officers in the Road Traffic Department checked the possession of cycling cards and the technical condition of two-wheelers. Lacks in the equipment has been completed. The officers handed bicycle lamps, bells, vests, and reflective hats. Then the laughing peloton traveled about 10 km long, which led from Wanaka, through Gnat. There were more attractions waiting for the participants there, including prepared by the members of the TSO a common bonfire.

 

The meeting was enriched with classes in first aid. Paweł Mieczkowski provided advice and tips from Putsch WOPR and students from the Schools. The topics were, among others proceedings in case of loss consciousness, epilepsy, hemorrhage, fractures of limbs / wounds due to falling from a bicycle. The children eagerly took part in the classes, had many questions, and shared insights.

 

We hope that joint promotion and building the right relationship on the line “driving another vehicle – pedestrian – cyclist” will contribute to the increase of road safety, and the knowledge and skills acquired will apply in practice.

The pedestrian with reflective material is best seen at night

If the President signs the norm that has passed through the Senate on Wednesday, people will have to start looking for reflective material for night walks on the roads. The senators discussed the possibility that the pedestrians would be on their way with a flashlight. MF DNES has therefore tested the visibility of a person with different reflective material.

 

On Wednesday in the Senate, the law on traffic on the roads passed, which primarily introduces the obligation for pedestrians to wear in the dark outside the village a reflective element on clothing. If the president signs the standard, the nightwalkers should already be looking for such a “shining” stripe. The obligation will probably begin to apply in the spring before the days begin to prolong.

 

When approving the law, there was an objection from the liberals, it would be enough if the pedestrian were on the road with a torch and no one would have to make his arm wrap his reflective stripe. Even in the Chamber of Deputies, he even tried to suggest Deputy Stanislaw, but his idea did not pass. MF DNES therefore tested (for the second time), as it is visible to a motorist from a different distance pedestrian walking at the side. This time, we included a headlamp lamp in the test. From my subjective point of view and from the point of view of my fellow driver, the headlamp in the test won. The walker with the flashlight on his forehead can be seen up to 400 meters

 

Everything looked like I was walking along the white line at the edge of the road, the camera operator was coming across from me, and from the moment, he first saw me, he began to measure the distance until I arrived. With the flashlight on my forehead, I could see 400 meters. The glowing stripe attached to the arm was visible at half a distance of two hundred meters. On the other hand, in the pedestrian without the illuminating element, almost no distance could be measured. It was a maximum of thirty meters, which is very inadequate.

 

Just calculate the speed of 60 km / h, the car will drive 16 meters per second, so the driver will not be able to react at all. That is why I was afraid too. In addition to a slow-moving colleague, of course, another car that I did not know before did pass through the Choleric section. In the past test, we have also tried walking with a reflective jacket that carries the driver in the car kit (more about the test here). It was visible for three hundred meters, but it would not be nobody is wearing it on my way home from the pub.

 

The paradox is that a pedestrian with a flashlight will shine well, the driver will see it, but when a policeman sees him, he can just fine him. The flashlight is not a reflective element and does not comply with the law. In fact, this is probably not the case, because the police will not be so strict. “The deal with the police is such that we will not be fined. The senators discussed the possibility of allowing the lamp. Senator Pert Bratsk, who was responsible for the road law, was also in favor of him. In the end, they decided that they would rather pass the law at least with reflective tapes than to keep it up and pay no obligation. In the Senate, the procedure is that, if he wanted to add the batteries to the law, he would have to return it to the Chamber of Deputies. “We are debating whether a flashlight or a vest will be mandatory, and we will take the law off for six months?” Pert Vichy, a senator for CSSD, asked.

Keep reflective vest in snow days

Obligatory cleaning of cars from ice and snow, pedestrians with reflective vest and the possibility to ride a cyclist even on a full line – these are the changes that the amendment to the Road Traffic Act wants to bring. What sanctions do pedestrians do when they do not have reflective material, and drivers in the case of an unclean car from snow and ice?

In the case of non-cleaned vehicles, there is a penalty of up to two thousand crowns in place, in the case of administrative proceedings up to CZK 2,500. As far as the pedestrian duty is concerned, there will also be sanctions there, but there is mainly an accident investigation on steps. That makes it easier for decision-makers to make decisions.

 

Must it be a duty to clear snow and ice from a car strictly defined in the law, if, according to our debaters, it can be penalized for this day? Is not it unnecessary denial of drivers?

I read the posts in the discussion under the article and I think that one who cleans the car and does not have a problem with it must say that it is nonsense because we are introducing a thing that is clear. However, just such a person does not limit the amendment. And the person who does not do that should learn from it and take the best of it. This is not about doing something to anyone. It is the result of a work that is based on a practice where there has always been a discussion whether snow and ice on the car are all right or not.

 

Of course, it is said that the instrument is in the law, but the police have a big problem in enforcing it. If it is precisely defined what is to be done with the vehicle before the ride, such as scraping the windows to provide a good view of the vehicle, which is one of the most important elements of active safety, it is absolutely well-founded. It is very unpleasant to drive a vehicle in front of you in winter, which has a higher layer of snow on the roof and gradually drops off at higher speeds. And because there was a discussion about whether the driver is in the way of looking at the fragrant tree on the mirror or something else at the window, then I personally think that a strict definition will help what we all want, and that is to make the operation safer and keeping the road safety.

 

I would like to emphasize that all these are just considerations because it is not a law signed by the President, but a proposal in inter-departmental proceedings. Therefore, it is not a loose coin, and the other thing is whether it will finally come out in the law.

How can I be seen without a reflective vest

Walking in the darkness of the street without having a reflective vest is not safe today. Not only can you hit a car, but you could also get a fine. But what if you do not want to wear a reflective vest? Alternatives are reflex sprays that can be used for clothing, metal and animals.

 

In the dark, with reflective elements only

In February of this year, an amendment to the Road Traffic Act came into force, which many of you and especially those who enjoy taking evening strolls for the city, have surely registered. For pedestrians traveling at the side or on the edge of the road outside the village in low visibility (where there is no public lighting), they are required to wear a reflective vest.

 

Decreased visibility is not only darkness, but also darkness or fog. The purpose of the regulation is clear – to prevent the impending collision of a pedestrian with a passing car. Pedestrians who violate this regulation are subject to a fine of up to CZK 2,000. When the reflective elements are said to be, you will probably recall the neat, lustrous yellow or orange hi vis vest, which is an obligatory part of the first aid kit. Fortunately, the law does not require wearing it directly, but it is said to be sufficient for any visible retro reflective material – a reflector that reflects light.

 

You can buy a reflex tape, for example. It protects you against the fine, but because of its modest size, it does not face all the dangers of road traffic. A more sophisticated alternative is the ALBEDO100 Reflective Spray (available at the 4MS.cz e-shop), with which you can produce a reflective element almost everything. Various types of reflex sprays are available, which can be applied to different materials.

 

Classic are reflex sprays for textiles, which can be used for clothes, shoes or for a bag or backpack. Although waterproof, it can be washed without any problems in the machine. You can also get different templates for reflex sprays, which make the mandatory reflective material, transform into a stylish adornment.

Color is resistant to sunlight, wind, and rain, but does not damage the surface. Those who are afraid of their pets at night would be able to use waterproof reflex sprays for animals that can be easily washed with shampoo.
