Proper selection and care of warning work clothes is a must

Especially winter days are short, often cloudy, visibility is worse. Anyone working outdoors, on the streets, on roads or construction sites, needs warning clothing with reflective elements. “Ideal protective clothing is safe, comfortable and ergonomic,” says Silvia Mertens, Product Manager.

A graduated textile engineer knows that only those who feel good in their bright orange or yellow clothing are also consistently worn. Trouser belts or jacket sleeves should be comfortable and fit for physical activity. Also thoughtfully designed pockets or loops for tools and other needs are important.

Reflective clothing must comply with ISO 20471. All safety requirements are also met by the certified clothing collection “Dynamic Reflect”, which offers a wide range of combinations. There are fluorescent orange or yellow reflective jackets, pants with pockets and bib. All according to ISO 20471, class 2. In case the jacket is worn together with trousers or pants with a bib, it is class 3. MEWA also offers sweatshirts, polo shirts, and t-shirts in fluorescent yellow or orange color.

Regular inspection is vital

Fluorescent substances, as well as reflective tapes, lose their functionality after some time by wearing, soiling and mechanical stress. Therefore, regular checking of clothing is essential. “In any case, a specialized textile service provider should be entrusted with the washing of warning clothing. This is the only way of guaranteeing a professional treatment of clothing, detection of a possible defect and its professional removal,” says Product Manager.

A camera system with special software examines the garment and evaluates its condition using an algorithm. Afterward, employees check each item of clothing again to see if it can be used. If the reflective element or the fluorescent substance no longer fulfill the protective purpose, these parts are repaired or replaced. Clothing can thus continue to fulfill its protective and warning function.

Reflective clothing must comply with ISO 20471. The “Dynamic Reflect” certified collection of clothing meets all the safety requirements and offers a wide range of combinations.

Bike accidents reduced by 56%

Accident reduction is a constant concern for road concession companies. In May Yellow, a road safety awareness campaign, Arteris Regis Bittencourt announces that it registered a 56% reduction in cyclist accidents in the 2017/2018 comparison.

But it is not only during the campaign that Arteris, one of the largest road concession companies in Brazil, with about 3,400 km managed, conducts actions aimed at road awareness and education. Some of them, such as Viva Ciclista, happen throughout the year. The initiative promotes educational actions aimed at cyclists who travel on the roads near the highways, especially on the sections with the highest occurrence of accidents. In addition to promoting good practices for safe behavior, it contributes to reducing the number of bicycle accidents on the highway.

In addition to serving residents who use the bike to and from work and schools in the Régis Bittencourt sections, Viva Ciclista also reaches athletes and groups that use the highway to practice the sport. “When we do awareness actions, we go to the edge of the slopes to talk to these people and teach them the right and least dangerous way to traffic safety. We also delivered the View and Be Seen kit with reflective jackets and flashlights that increase the visibility of the rider and collected data on the route and frequency of traffic on the highway,” says Arteris Operations Superintendent Ricardo Grab.

During meetings, company representatives share tips for pedaling responsibly. Check out some:

Always wear the reflective helmet. In addition to protecting, it also increases driver visibility

Traffic following the direction of the road and look for roads with fewer vehicles

Check the traffic conditions and highway climate

Wear light and reflective clothing

Make a checklist of equipment

Wear a reflective vest

Watch out for objects on the track

Watch out for curves

Sustainability and community support

Through its sustainability strategy and support to communities, Arteris supports the surrounding areas where it operates with environmental, awareness, road education, volunteering, culture, health, and sports support activities. There are several programs developed focusing on reducing deaths, accidents and minimizing social and environmental impact. Among his programs are Project School, Seal Friend, Live Environment, Live Cyclist, Live Motorcyclist, Health on the Ride and Wake Up Driver.

Road safety: can we ride in beach gear

In this summer, the habits of motorized two-wheelers have changed. Many drivers have dropped appropriate reflective jackets and pants. Flip flops, t-shirts and shorts are now out. Is such light clothing permitted by French law? What are the mandatory protections?

According to article R431-1 of the Highway Code, wearing a helmet is mandatory for all drivers or passengers of a moped. It must be attached and approved. The French standard is marked by a white label and guarantees the quality of its manufacture and protection. In case of non-wearing the helmet, the driver is liable to a fine of € 135 and a withdrawal of 3 points on his license.

Gloves are also mandatory for PTW riders. Since November 2016, the wearing of gloves approved, for the pilot as the passenger, is mandatory. This accessory is intended to resist abrasion, tearing or tearing. According to road safety figures, wearing thick gloves helps to reduce or prevent hand injuries in 95% of cases for motorcyclists and 87% of cases for moped riders.

A quarter of the deaths in 2016

Since January 2016, the need for a yellow safety vest has been extended to PTW drivers. There is no obligation to wear it while riding, however. This “high visibility vest” becomes indispensable in the case of drivers getting off their vehicle following an emergency stop. They incur a fine of € 11 if they are stopped without a vest on board and € 135 if they do not wear it while they are stopped on the road.

Only these three elements are therefore qualified as mandatory by French legislation. Nothing prohibits drivers of motorcycles or scooters to ride in beachwear. Failure to wear appropriate jackets or trousers is in no way punishable.

More road stops

If full equipment is not required, however, it is strongly recommended. As a reminder, PTW drivers accounted for only 2% of traffic, but nearly a quarter of the road deaths in France in 2016. 70% of motorcyclists dropped at least once in 2016. Nearly half of them were injured. According to road safety, a large part of these injuries is due to incomplete equipment. 16% of scooter drivers did not own any equipment. In the PACA region, as reported by France 3 Provence, the authorities have decided to reinforce roadside checks during this summer period to try to make bikers aware of the risks of accidents.

New design cycling clothes with reflective fabric

Transparent joins the project of one of the most productive cycling quarries in Europe. The firm has collaborated since this season with the Spanish subsidiary and sub23 of the Quick Step team, the Quickstep-Telco.

Transparent has prepared for the young cyclists and their technical team some personalized poles that stand out for their particular cyclist style in street clothes. These garments follow the parameters that have made the signature designs unique and that link them directly with the bicycle tradition: back pocket, reflective detail, tight cut, seams advanced…

In addition, he has made custom fabric bags with the name of each of the cyclists and some exclusive reflective jackets. The Quickstep-Telco team, m-Timex was officially launched this week. The presentation of the Spanish subsidiary of the Quick Step was held in Pamplona and was attended by five-time Tour de France champion Miguel Endbrain. The Quickstep-Telco team, m-Timex will have 18 riders and will be headed in the technical direction by Juan Salas (manager) and Luis Vicente Orin (first sports director).

This is transparent first foray into street wear with reflective fabric in a professional cycling structure. Undoubtedly, one more step in the evolution of this young Spanish firm specializing in the making of cyclist-style street wear.

Reflective clothing must be worn by anyone outside

The end of the year is marked by holiday and family expeditions to foreign mountains. Experienced drivers already know how to prepare their car for a good deal of miles and frosty days, but it is also good to be aware of the differences in road traffic rules in the countries visited. Some rules are not used by the Czech…

In Slovakia, as in the Czech Republic, it is mandatory to use winter tires if the conditions require (a continuous layer of snow, ice or frost is on the road). Reflective clothing must be worn by anyone outside the village on the road due to vehicle failure, tire defect or traffic accident. Obligation also applies to motorcyclists. Otherwise, a fine of 150 Euros (more than 4,000 crowns) is threatened. Daily lighting is mandatory all year round.

In Slovenia, it is better to go on winter tires (local drivers will probably also use the possibilities to ride in the summer, but in this case, they have to have snow chains in the luggage compartment and use them in the winter conditions). The reflective jacket must be worn by anyone who comes out of the vehicle in the event of a breakdown or a traffic accident. The required number of vests must be carried in the cabin, not in the luggage compartment of the car. Daily lighting is mandatory all year round.

Snow chains necessities

In Switzerland, it should be borne in mind that some roads may only be permitted to enter the snow chains. The use of reflective vests is not required; on the contrary, daytime lighting is mandatory all year round. Outside of the village, the audible warning signs must be used in front of sharp corners in places with impaired visibility, and in the dark, the lights are blinking briefly. Attention to pedestrians, they are accustomed to a high degree of courtesy and tolerance on the part of the drivers, they can, without proper oversight, enter the road and in places where we do not normally expect it. Drivers who have prescriptions for glasses must have one replacement pair with them.

In Italy, the use of winter tires is not obligatory, but some roads may be allowed only with snow chains. It is not only for the driver, but also for every passenger, to carry a reflective vest for its eventual use. If a vehicle on the rear carrier exceeds its dimensions carries any cargo, it must be marked with a reflective, red and white diagonally striped square measuring 50×50 centimeters. Daily lighting is mandatory throughout the year when driving out of the inhabited area and also in rain, snow or otherwise diminished visibility. Rear fog lamps can only be used in visibility, reduced to a maximum of 50 meters, under heavy rain or heavy snow.

In France, the use of winter tires is not obligatory, but some sections of the road can only be admitted with them, respectively. Reflective jackets for both driver and passenger must be transported in the vehicle cabin. Daily lighting is not mandated, but recommended. In general, outside the village, you can drive up to 90 km / h on highways up to 130 km / h. This restriction also applies to persons holding a driving license for a maximum of three years. It definitely does not pay to carry or even use a radar detector. Otherwise, a fine of 1500 Euros (over 40 thousand crowns) and the seizure of the respective device, in the extreme case also of the vehicle, will be imposed. Beware of overtaking cyclists. Inside the village, a lateral distance of at least one meter is required, outside the community of at least 1.5 meters. Since the beginning of October, the French police has been very hard, is ubiquitous and uncompromising.

Reflective jackets for prostitutes

Jackets for prostitutes on the streets: Deputy Mayor confirms and adds all of them paid “out of pocket”. The town on Pauline, in the province of Cremona, has decided to adopt a unique “hard line” against prostitution on the old Pauline on the road 1, forcing the girls to reflective jackets by day and also to long trousers band reflective at night. If they do not wear them, they will get 500 euro fine. After the “hype,” he told Milano Today what happened.

Deputy Mayor, so you confirmation: a Spine jackets she paid for them?

“I explain. We have the so-called day shift, until six in the afternoon, they work in black girls. Then, in the evening, come the European. We have warned girls of color order. We do not have responded they had a problem and asked if it was common to supply the reflective vest. At this point, these being the most exploited and destitute, I thought I’d pay the jackets of my own pocket. ”

It has already delivered them?

“Yes, I’ve done that on Friday and Saturday. I thought I’d make this gesture because they are the most susceptible to exploitation.”

“They no, make do. Friday night we took a ride with the local police, to let them inspect the ordinance and doing sign for receipt. From this moment start the sanctions.”

He believes that prefer to move or accept the jackets and reflective pants?

“I have the impression that some of those evenings, it is already gone. Maybe they will move to another place, I feel sorry for the other place. The mayors of neighboring municipalities can always adopt the ordinance; it would not hurt homogeneity on the territory of Pauline because it would facilitate the work of law enforcement. “

Police advertises reflective products

Visibility in the dark is an important issue not only for children. A safety vest with reflective tape can enhance the visibility and its good help for safety. Older people are particularly at risk in traffic. The police and the Office of Transport Management informed yesterday seniors on road safety in the dark season.

Especially one was stressing: Even light-colored clothing is dark at night. , A white jacket protects hardly even if it is better than a black one. What really helps reflectors is available in all shapes and colors. Whether reflective bracelets, pendants, and umbrellas with built-in flashlight, shopping bags or the classic safety vests – everything was there, was introduced, tested, given away or sold. Joachim Tabatha, road safety consultant for the police informed around 50 interested in the center plus the Awe on the road victory. “In particular, the fully reflective jackets and caps are a great innovation,” said Tabatha. Even small trailers are particularly useful. These are hardly recognizable as such, but would have a strong effect when light falls on them. Products such as tapes and trailers should be secured, especially in the arms and legs, as the movement is easier to detect.

Maria Gaze already has many reflective items. She is particularly impressed by the fully reflective jackets and the inconspicuous trailers. “They’re not quite as flashy, but do seem to work well. My husband often uses the normal safety vest, which I like but not so much,” said Gaze. In addition to the reflective products mainly active systems such as LED or flashlights are good helpers. These shine by themselves and need not be only illuminated.

Of course, the behavior remains important in traffic. Especially in the winter months, the police will also pay greater attention to the lights of cars and adherence to predetermined speeds. Here are now also increasingly pedestrians are aware of their security, then will wear a reflective vest on the road to keep safe.

Illuminant with reflective material

“At the driver more space than the frame or on the running wheels is” noted on Friday a reader to post “Everything Is Illuminated” and referred to the reflective vests, available at the hardware store. He is absolutely right. In autumn and winter there are the cyclists in their own hands, to illuminate her silhouette in the dark in any form. This protects them and allows motorists often only to recognize them at all early.

Children get to school enrollment by the school or the German Traffic yellow vests or V-shaped luminous collar, they can coat the morning in the dark season. Your charisma is immense. And adults who are sporty machine often resort to neon-reflective vests. Depending on what date you drive, but the West is not necessarily the garment of choice.

This is now but no longer a problem. The fashion industry has noticed that more and more people with the wheel are traveling, and has responded. Since two or three years, is slowly improving, but continuously quote for daily commuters. There are beautiful bike fashions that are functional clothing, but not outer as such. The Jean producer has manufactured for the first time in 1895 Bike Pants. The trick is: The reflective jackets and pants are not only breathable, but also equipped with reflectors, which can fold out when driving the back or that appear when you roll up the trouser leg.

Commuters who cover long distances, the reflectors are not sufficient often. You access to sport jackets with reflectors on the arms and back. Some manufacturers equip their cycling jackets even with small LED light strip, such as here. Wolfgang has developed with the Institute for Reliability and Micro-integration high-tech jacket.

In the tissue red and white LEDs are integrated in the shoulder and back area. The lights are linked to the movements of the cyclist. They are controlled by means of a microelectronic system, sensors and control elements as well as switches and battery integrated into the jacket.

The circuit board is flexible and resistant according to Institute to moisture. You could even be washed in the washing machine, they say. In last year Wolfgang received for Sporty the Red Dot Design Award. Wolfgang wants to sell the jacket via a campaign early next year, by mid-year there will be the jacket also in stores.

Significantly cheaper and also very practical are reflective arm and leg warmers. They simply coat sleeve or pant leg. Which are much smaller driver bands – the modern form of trouser clip? They are made of truck tarpaulin, or giant cinema posters that hung at international film festivals on facades. They are wider than the classic trouser belts and have a Velcro which holds really well. For better visibility, a relatively large reflective stripe delivers. And who needs a bag, can now rely on models that reflect also. A model has been here on the blog presented.

Motorist without reflective jackets will be hit easily

The “lobby jacket” won. And from April the famous warning reflective jackets will obligatory throughout Italy. The law actually not required under the jacket on all cars (as is the case for the triangle), but stipulates that any emergency operation around the car should be carried out with the famous jacket.
Thus any violation would take effect only if you are caught “in flagrante delicate”. We must say that any measure to reduce the risk of accidents is welcome, even if it favors some powerful industrial lobby.
The point is that the case of fluorescent jackets is a prime example of disregard for their own safety that you would like to increase.
With the decree in fact creates a huge legal vacuum in terms of insurance: if a motorist is hit near his car without wearing a reflective vest, the insurance will not pay. This is the only certainty of the “vests”.
However, no reliable statistics on how many motorists are invested while changing a tire, how many accidents could be avoided with this rule, the indirect benefits to the greater visibility of pedestrians around parked cars.
You only know that from April onwards insurance will have a new excuse not to pay. And the turnover of the companies that manufacture these reflective jackets will increase.
But it is not all: the next step will be to make it compulsory to apply reflective tapes on all trucks. An optional thing throughout Europe, but those we will be required by law. So they will have to sell kilometers adhesive reflector strips to cover all trucks circulating in Italy.
But back to the jacket which, by the way, should cost about 10 Euros. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has in fact issued a decree with directions to the personal protective equipment for drivers of passenger cars.
The vests with reflective stripes and suspenders must comply with the essential health and safety requirements described in Legislative Decree 4 December 1992, n. 475. And the Manufacturers will be able to present, on request, in addition to the EC declaration of conformity even the certificate of conformity. It must be assessed by the examination for the EC, by which an approved inspection body certifies that a model of personal protective equipment is manufactured in accordance with relevant national standards, transposing the harmonized standards. For high visibility garments harmonized standard reference is UNI EN 471.
