Tear gas in front of the arena

Nemeses and the Yellows: An innkeeper closing his brasserie for the day warns the guests in front of the Black Block. His colleague in another restaurant initially thought the move was good, but now it was too much. The owner of a shop selling precious bullfighting devotional items does not think to lock up, and our hotelier has heard nothing of impending riots.

This changes when the old town becomes a staging area during the Saturday afternoon. For a while, the “gilet jauntiness” and the black uniforms of the CRS, the companies Republicans DE Security, perform skirmishes around the arena. Stones fly, trash cans burn, the scenery reminds of May 1st festivities in Nuremberg. Only come here no emergency vehicles, the streets are too narrow.

The Muse DE la Romania – one of the most beautiful places to study ancient life, a world-class presentation – closes in the tumult, the arena is also locked. On the square in front of it stands a sculpture of the famous matador Christian Montesquieu, called “Anime II”. He holds his metal cloth in the wind, a dumb Ola.

The police drive the protesters into the old town, and perhaps the reflective fabric wants to lure the officials in the confusing network of streets, squares, passages. There are some slightly injured and a few arrests, hardly any material damage. Obviously, the protest is not directed against local business people.

The yellow vest with reflective tapes is also a camouflage for democratic enemies

An international flamenco festival opens on the weekend in Nemeses. The vernissage in the early evening is canceled for security reasons, the premiere will take place later. We go down the alleys to the food, which two or three hours before were wrapped in acrid mist and echoed off the boots of the CRS. The restaurant is called “Impressive”, the unforeseen, unexpected.

Later, the bars are busy again. It is cold, but many guests are sitting on the Boulevard Victor Hugo, which leads from the Madison Carrie to the arena. The shop windows of the banks are broken, thrown in and sprayed: “Le capital Crest Du cacao” and “Velours!”, Thieves.

The safety vest with the signal color can cover anybody, no matter which color, it is also a camouflage for democratic enemies. Will the “tenth act” bring more people to the streets next Saturday, is it a small revolution?

The official’s fire cartridges in the streets. You can easily get caught between the fronts. Cite, bite, says a policewoman. We take a hundred meters to the entrance of our hotel at a run. The gas etched in the throat, tears in the face. Cite, bite! The yellow vests will not be forgiven that fast. Not even the global problems that they tackle by force, because politics fail in their eyes.

From the security signal to the protest sign

A successful transmutation, of the object “reflective vest” on a dashboard about “yellow vests” saturating the public space; a successful diversion from a security signal to a protest sign; but a fight of opinion lost, in spite of the initial sympathy which the movement had been able to arouse. A semiotic reading obviously does not exhaust the sociological and historical analysis that is needed, but it can shed light on the reflection on a phenomenon that arises from nowhere and that risks returning to it, for lack of having been able to transform the symbolic capital created in tangible political benefit. No, definitely, there is no immanence of meaning …

From object to subject: a successful transmutation

In 2008, the fluorescent yellow vest, called “high visibility” thanks to its horizontal reflective tapes, became a mandatory road safety equipment on board cars. As summed up the late Karl Dangerfield, more maceration than ever in a poster campaign launch, “it’s yellow, it’s ugly, it does not go with anything, but it can save your life.”

Already used as a sign of rallying in 2014 by parents of students opposed to the reform of school rhythms of Vincent Pillion, or by border workers of the Haut-relief, the yellow vest acquires world renown only in November 2018 when the eponymous movement starts. The change of substance and nature is as rapid as it is radical, in every sense of the word. We are talking about the transmutation of reality by writing, we are there in the transmutation of the object – a banal piece of fluorescent tissue – by the subject – a frustrated, angry citizen, who intends to make himself all the more visible in the public space that he feels invisible in the political space.

But how is this “passage” from one state to another effected? How does one go from having a yellow vest to being a yellow vest, to a roundabout and then to the street? How does the textile object give its name (if no meaning, it will be seen) to the human subject?

From signal to sign: successful diversion

From a semiotic point of view, we thus observe a process of transformation of reality by the effect of a metonymy. The original idea comes, as we know, from a user of Facebook, Laughing Courtyard, who expresses himself in these terms in a video posted on his Facebook account in late October: “We all have a yellow vest in the car. Fuck it prominently on the dashboard, all week, finally until 17. A little color code to show that you agree with us, with the movement, and that is hot, that is not hot. ”

Displayed on the dashboards and then carried on oneself, the “small color code” for signage purposes (to be visible in the event of a road failure) becomes a shared sign (to be visible because of a social breakdown) and ostensibly displayed by thousands of people. French who put it on to denounce the taxes on diesel, the increase in social charges or indirect taxes and, more broadly, fiscal and social injustice. Then, quickly, the wearing of the vest is a radical challenge to the established order, the representative democracy, the political “system” in place – with the support of far-right and far-left activists, populist movements and Troll factories Justinian and Bostonian pharmacies whose #fake-news invade the favorite social media vests yellow.

From the dashboard of the car to the shoulders of its driver, the reflective fabric thus becomes the banner of a global rebellion, both disorganized and “framed” by some, more and more virulent, even violent, if not massive and even less representative of the French population.

From rejection to rejection: a fight of opinion

As in an interminable play, the “acts” follow each other, week by week, weaving a captivating media dramaturgy – in the etymological sense of the term, that is, seduced by a sort of irresistible fascination. Morbid fascination in front of the screens, Saturday after Saturday, for the urban guerrilla scenes which mark each parade but also, more and more, for the violent acts internal to the movement whose irreconcilable fractions are torn apart and finally, as in Lyon or Paris last weekend, for lack of prior ex-filtration, face each other physically. They do not agree on much, but forbid each other to say or do anything “in the name of yellow vests”.

Vassal police officers urge mayors to buy reflective vests for wagons

Vassal police officers urge city mayors to buy reflective vests for carriages, due to a large number of accidents occurring within counties where unsigned horses are involved.

Chief Commissioner Sergio Anton, head of the Road Police Service, met with the mayors of some communes in the county and asked them to buy 500 reflective vests with reflective tapes, which he would distribute to the carriages. Last year, Commissioner Anton collected 500 donations from the donations, which he shared for free.

I am not a follower of the fines imposed on the elderly

In the county of Vassal, 32 people have died in road accidents, of which 30 were caused by events in rural areas. 9 people died, people over 65 who disregarded all road laws and regulations, the policeman said.

It is very difficult for us, as cops, to go for tragic events. You, as mayors, could do much more to avoid such dramas. I am not a follower of the fines imposed on the elderly, so we ask for your help so that there are not so many unpleasant and tragic events. We are the only county in the country to record tragic events because of the tails, said the head of the Road Police.

Do not forget the reflective elements!

Darkness is still early, and so it was again a very recent amendment to Act 361/2000 Coll. on road traffic. It came into force on February 20, 2016, and its main objective is to prevent serious and fatal accidents caused by the fact that the pedestrian was not visible enough on the road. This is to ensure mandatory reflection elements, but unfortunately, a number of pedestrians who travel on unlit roads are unfortunately ignored. Many people think that the car has lights to see the driver. And that means they see them, so nothing can happen to them.

It is stupid to repeat all the media every fall. But there is still little. This is evidenced by one very sad number. Autumn and winter are likely to be signed by this issue too, in a very bold and sad script. What with this?

See and be seen

Remember that it is not only important to see, but to be seen! The driver who encounters the darkness of the pedestrian in dark clothes has an adequate response of only about 18 meters. Put into practice, this means that at a speed of 70 km / h, which is 20 km / h lower than the maximum speed limit outside the village, the driver does not have a response for a second. And in this time, pedestrians must notice and adequately respond. Is it even possible? And what happens when a pedestrian has at least some reflective fabric? The driver is then able to register it at a distance of 200 meters and has enough time for a reaction.

If you dragged on how to look like the right reflective material, then it is difficult to advise in this. The law does not unravel it, and we think any reflex element is better than none. Ideal, of course, is a reflective vest, but we understand that you will not normally wear it with you. However, it is also good to use reflective tapes that fit into each pocket and are available almost everywhere. Children can be “adorned” with iron-on reflective images with the motives of their favorite characters. Remember that if you are driving on a dark road without pavement, always keep the reflector on the hand or foot that is facing the road. So the driver will see the moving glare from the lights.

We’ve already met on our roads with some pedestrians picking up a cell phone with a flashlight turned on, and they use instead of reflective materials. It may seem like a good idea, but the cell or the flashlight itself cannot reflect the light coming from the car’s reflector, but on the contrary, it may lose it (like weaker sources of light). Moreover, these features are not visible from all sides.

Do you wonder if you are in danger of using reflective elements? In the first place, you are at risk of at least serious injury or, in the worst case, death. These are the most important reasons why you need to buy and use a 25-pound reflex tape. If you accidentally catch the police without it, then you will be fined up to CZK 2,000 in the block and from 1,500 to 2,500 CZK in administrative proceedings.

Remember! Reflectors can save your life!

For the sake of security on our roads, the Preseason police appeal to join the action “Be an example” and wear reflective vests.

Wearing reflective clothing is especially important in autumn and winter when there is poor visibility and it is dark. If a person is poorly visible on the road, it may be easier to be hit by a car. Small reflective tape on the backpack or clothing makes the driver receive a warning that someone is moving along the way. The driver looking at the road illuminated by the headlamps of his car will notice a pedestrian going along the side of the road at a distance of 40 meters.

– On a wet and slippery road, when another car arrives from the opposite direction, the visibility decreases to approx. 10-15 meters.

– From the moment you see the pedestrian, until the moment the braking starts, the second passes. At 50 km / h, the car will defeat about 15 meters at this time.

– Pedestrian wearing reflective fabric is visible from a distance of 200 – 300 meters.

– If your child falls under the car and does not wear reflective elements, the insurance company may refuse to pay compensation.

– Reflective tapes can be worn on shoes, trouser leg, jacket, on a coat, cap or backpack. Put the band on the outer leg and arm. If a pedestrian column is going down, the first and last person should have a reflective vest.

School in sight. Kids in view

Under the motto “School in sight. Kids in view. “Is the safety campaign for first graders this year. Wearing reflective clothing gives children and parents additional security when, in the fall, many first-graders master the way to school for the first time. Westerner Hildebrand of the ADAC regional club Automobile Touring Club Ravel and Frisian Wedded now gave safety vests to the class teachers Alexia Kroger and Sonja Feints at the elementary school Cornerback elementary school in the ADAC Foundation safety campaign, which immediately equipped their students with it.

The mobility officers of the elementary school Blackthorn, Christine Lack, and Elisabeth Motherliness, had also invited Eu gen Schneider of the police prevention team, who pointed out that a safety vest with reflective fabric significantly contributes to better visibility and people are seen in the dark from a distance of 140 meters. He asked the children to always wear the vest. This is a matter of course for many Cornerback elementary students. As school secretary Sabine Walkaway has observed, third and fourth-grade children also wear these vests on their way to school. The handing over of the vests in Blackthorn forms the regional prelude of this ADAC action.

In total, in the Frisian Wedded and Ravel 265, safety vests are distributed to the students. The vests are delivered to the schools by the cooperation partner of the ADAC, the forwarding company DHL.

The school with Kowalk in a nationwide campaign

Good to see you are a nationwide education and information campaign, implemented as part of the project “Safe Road”, the aim of which is to improve the safety of road users, in particular children and adolescents.

As part of the project, first graders from the Primary School in Kowalky took part in a lesson prepared according to the script prepared by the Foundation for the National Day of Life. Children have become acquainted with the animation of various traffic situations and understand that inappropriate behavior can be dangerous to human health or life. The first ones also became aware that the basic element of any outerwear and backpack should be reflections. They should have reflective fabric or reflective tapes. They make it possible to see the pedestrian on the road in conditions of inadequate visibility, which often protects against being hit by a car.

After completing the scenario of “Good to see you on the other side of the street”, children have passed into practical activities. Wearing reflective vests, which they received as part of the campaign, they began arranging the situation on the road. The basic traffic signs were fixed in the fun of movement and they learned the meaning of individual information signs.

Classes in the framework of the “Good to see you” campaign was also held in the second, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth grades of the primary school. All participants received a reflective vest.

On the occasion of the project, the school staff from Kowalk reminds the youngest 7 reflective road councils:

  1. If you can, always go along the sidewalk or pedestrian road. It is not safe on the road.
  2. Do you have to go down the road? Choose the left side of the road, you’ll see the approaching cars faster, and the drivers will notice you from afar.
  3. Even if you speak well with your friend, always march not together, just goose. Keep as close to the shoulder as possible!
  4. When there is no sidewalk, you can go on a cycling route. Look around carefully, cyclists have priority.
  5. Take your time slowly. Running on the road is always a bad idea. Stop before you cross the street.
  6. If something is blocking the way: a hedge or a parked car, first look out from behind the obstacle and see if anything goes.
  7. When it is dark and burro or raining, reflections can save you. With them, you can see from a distance. Wear reflections! Insert a vest!

You are going to travel? Check what you must have in the emergency kit of your vehicle

That a simple incident on the way to your vacation does not ruin the picture. The triangle, the reflective vest, and the extinguisher are not the only safety elements that you should carry in your car.

Ready and loaded suitcases, children with safety belts and entertainment prepared for several hours, crackers for the road, full tank, precise pressure in the tires.

Is there anything missing to start the trip? Well, do not forget to have the complete and revised safety kit, given that in case of an emergency situation it could be the difference between solving the problem or having a day of discomfort or even disaster on the route.

The National Safety Commission (Conaset) raises in its document “Book of the new driver” in its version for motorists that always before traveling the visibility is verified in the front windshield, the rear window, and the side windows, it is checked that the mirrors have good visibility and that the doors are closed.

In addition, call to check that you have all emergency devices, which are detailed below.

What your car should have

Extinguisher

Remember that the fire extinguisher must have a load, not be expired and be located in a place that allows it to be used quickly and safely if needed.

Spare wheel

The wheel must be in good condition and be complete (rim and tire). This, except in special cases of the regulation.

In addition, you must bring the necessary elements for replacement (“cat” and cross key).

Reflective triangles

It is advisable to have two equilateral reflective triangles in your vehicle. These should be red and visible both at night and during the day. In addition, they must be made of solid materials that will not be damaged in the event of an accident.

Reflecting triangles must maintain stability and, if used, place one in front of and one behind the vehicle.

Reflective Vests

The vest must be made of reflective fabric and have reflective tapes with a width of 50 mm.

It must always be in an accessible place inside the vehicle so that the driver can get off the car with the garment on if needed.

First aid kit

Although the first aid kit is not mandatory for private vehicles (if it is for freight, collective transport, and school transport), it is an extremely useful element.

It is recommended that the kit bring physiological serum, analgesics, alcohol, adhesive cloth, sterile gauze, procedure gloves, tweezers, thermometer, cotton, and bandages.

How safe are the Heidelberg streets?

“The number of accidents in road traffic has changed in recent years rather bad,” said Tania Novelistic, the police officer of the Tupperware police. If you take a closer look at the development of accidents, you realize that there were about 420 more accidents in Schneider in 2017 than in the previous year, that is almost 11 percent.

Most accidents happened due to wrong behavior when turning or turning. Especially by the beginning of the dark season, the risk of an accident in addition. “Bright and reflective clothing, if possible with reflective tapes,” recommends Tania Novelistic pedestrians, so they are better seen in the dark and possibly even in the rain on the road.

The head of the Traffic Directorate also has important advice for motorists: “In this weather, you should always adapt your driving style to the road conditions in order to avoid accidents.” Especially autumn and winter are characterized by early and long darkness. Frequently, rain or even snowfall worsens visibility and sometimes makes the road a slippery rink at low temperatures.

In this time, vehicle safety is of particular importance, according to Novelistic. Functioning lighting, good winter tires with sufficient profile and especially from the inside and outside cleaned windows are urgently needed.

There are special awareness-raising activities at elementary schools

Especially the children are in the eyes of the police. So every year the Schneider police make the action “Can you see me?” In elementary schools. In the process, the children put on reflective clothing with reflective fabric, wear additional reflectors, and stand in the morning, when it’s still dark, at the side of the road to test whether the other road users see them. So even the little ones learn very early on what is important in the traffic.

Unfortunately, there are always people who are drunk or drugged. Alone this year, we have had 100 cases without accidents until August, where alcohol and drugs played a role. “It is irresponsible,” says Tania Novelistic, “how carelessly some people take to the wheel, even though they are not allowed to drive anymore. This puts other people and yourself in the greatest danger! ”

The traffic safety work of the police has changed in recent years. “Trucks and cars are nowadays more and more moving computers with an incredible amount of technology,” explains the senior counselor. So the police would also have to learn to understand this technique, so they can take the correct measures, for example, in traffic accidents to secure the evidence.

ADAC distributes safety vests in Berger elementary schools

The protection of children in traffic has been a major concern of the ADAC and the Deutschmark Post Foundation for many years. That is why both institutions are equipping elementary schools with yellow safety vests again this year under the motto “School in sight, Kids in view”.

After the schools in Frozen and Bioengineering, which were presented last week, yesterday it was the Gerund- and Salesclerk Iceberg and the Frobisher-Thomson-Scheduled in Schrodinger. As over bigger of the useful outerwear was the traffic officer of the local club Engage, German Noway, in use. Sven Schulz, the headmaster of the Gerund- dun Salesclerk Iceberg, explained in the first two classes, which in total comprise about 50 pupils, that he promised to give presents at school. This is the first opportunity to make the promise true.

The ADAC man admonished the children to always coat the sleeveless vests on the streets and paths from dawn or in inclement weather. “You want to experience Christmas healthy,” he emphasized. The vests are extra so wide in scope that even a thick winter jacket has space under it. With their yellow and orange vests and reflective tapes, the kids could be out there for everyone to see. Even when driving a car, it is not a pity, the vest to have it. For each vest, there was a special washing instruction for the parents. “The reflectors should last as long as possible,” said Noway. If a vest is broken or lost, replacement is possible.

The children quickly put on the new clothes. They received yellow and red balloons for the safety vests. The two class teachers Anna-Maria Keller (class 1a) and Simone Deng (class 1b) received a CD with songs and a book. After the surprising gifts, the young students devoted themselves with great zeal to learning the German language again.

The sleeveless safety vests catch the eye with reflective fabric and the gray reflective tapes. They are distributed to first graders in Slumberous by ADAC Engage. Chairman is Granter Churchman, Transport Commissioner German Noway.
