Students to cross safely with wear safety vest

If there are qualified people to estimate the dangerousness of the pedestrian crossings near the schools, it is the “yellow reflective vest” that are responsible for crossing the street to schoolchildren and college students throughout the city. Myriad Uterus has been crossing students for more than 5 years at the edge of the college of the school city. It allows students to cross the Avenue to reach the buses parked at the Rhine-Danube esplanade.

Find our complete file on the security around the schools in the Republican this week, available in newsstands or digital version by clicking here.

“I received training by the Municipal Police of Armanda. From the first day, we are confronted with the problems of the field. During the training, I was taught how to position myself to get the students to cross safely. I always position myself on the same sidewalk as the kids. In addition, the officer in safety vest is regularly monitored by the municipal police services, to verify that it complies with all the usual precautions.

College students are used to following his instructions and waiting for his agreement to cross. “Children are not too much of a problem. Some high school students prefer to cross alone because they are tall but in general, each crossing is secure, “says Myriad Uterus.

If she crosses the children in groups to be visible and to guarantee them greater security, she herself runs into the dangerous behavior of the motorists. “Almost every day, I see drivers accelerating in this area, especially when a train arrives. It’s a street where people drive very fast. Sometimes, some motorists force the passage. “A few days ago, a car passed while I was still in the middle of the road.”

Yet the agent is very easily recognizable, his yellow vest and his “light saber” red, allowing him to stop vehicles. But she wants to point out that people, who are used to it, drive carefully.

Yellow vest and gloves are mandatory for all

That could again make the bikers angry. With the New Year, two-wheeled motorcycle owners will have to comply with two new obligations. The safety vest, first of all, it is that every motorcycle or scooter driver will have to carry with his hands, in his panniers or his top-case, whereas it is compulsory for the motorists since 2008. In the contrary case, the offender exposes himself to a first class ticket for 17 Euros. And as for motorists, the motorcyclist will have to wear it in case of emergency stop. Otherwise, he is liable to a fine of 135 Euros.

The other equipment that becomes mandatory is the pair of gloves. Not mittens or woolen gloves, but leather gloves duly approved. The implementing decree introducing this obligation must be published in the coming days.

“It will help not to destroy your hands too much”

We know the drivers of two-wheelers loving freedom, so what do they think of these obligations? In the category of good students, there is David, 41, biker to the tips of his fingers. “Me, I have the helmet, boots, a leather jacket, gloves and a yellow vest in my bag”. We want to put a 20/20, especially since according to him, impose gloves to all drivers of motorized two-wheelers; it is a measure of common sense. “I always have gloves, if you fancy your mouth; it will help not to destroy your hands too much”.

“It’s 60 Euros a pair,” he explains. He has an idea that could encourage all drivers to equip themselves: “There could be a small financial assistance, or maybe a discount at the insurance level for us to be equipped.”

“Intrusive rules that add up all the time”

It would calm down Yank, 34, who rides on a scooter. He bought a yellow jacket reluctantly and for the approved gloves, he is not ready to equip himself. “It’s quite restrictive, and everyone should be free to decide whether or not to wear gloves based on the risk they take.” He is annoyed by the “extra rules that are added all the time”. He finds this “intrusive”.

Additional obligations, there is an additional freedom all the same this year for the two wheels. From February 1st, motorcycles and scooters will be able to circulate between two lines of car in Ile-de-France, in Gironde, and in Rhône. Until then, it was only tolerating.

An essential reflective band to complete your visibility

Drive case, a Strasbourg-based company specializing in road safety related accessories and training, fights against accidents linked to poor visibility of users. In addition to traditional safety vest, pedestrians and cyclists can wear a reflective armband to increase their visibility.

Reflective armbands usually made of stainless steel and shatterproof or polyester, armbands wind around your arm either by torsion or Velcro. At Drive case, the majority of armbands meet EN 13356: 2001, which specifies the optical and surface performance requirements for accessories intended for non-professional use and designed to signal the presence of an individual visually when illuminated by a vehicle on the road at night.

An ideal gift during your prevention days

Existing in different colors and customizable with a logo or message, the Drive case reflective armbands are essential accessories during your training sessions. Their small size and ease of use make them perfect gifts for your employees or audiences so they keep a souvenir of your brand or event.

Other high-visibility accessories

Complete your range of reflective products by discovering the other collections offered by Drive case. In addition to your armband, opt for a vest, the most effective tool to be visible on the road. For sportsmen, the reflective gusset belt is an essential accessory. For your children, a wide range of reflective accessories to hang on a bag or clothes are available.

The yellow vest is soon mandatory for delivery men

Like motorists, drivers of a two- or three-wheeled motor vehicle will be required to wear a high visibility vest when traveling.

As of January 1, 2016, all drivers of a motor vehicle with two or three wheels (motorcycle, scooter …) or a motor quadricycle not bodied must have a high visibility vest commonly known as “yellow vest “. Professionals who use these means of locomotion in the course of their work (couriers, delivery men …) are no exception to the rule. Indeed, they must have this vest on them or in storage of their vehicle (net, trunk …). In addition, they must wear it before leaving their vehicle in case of immobilization on the roadway or its surroundings following an emergency stop.

And be careful, the driver who does not respect these new obligations may be penalized. The non-possession of the reflective vest will be liable to a fine of € 11 (up to € 38) while forgetting to wear the safety vest when getting off the vehicle following a stop emergency will be sanctioned by a fine of 135 € (up to 750 €).

However, by exception, the police court may decide to charge the employer the payment of fines. In fact, given the circumstances and working conditions of the driver (the pressure exerted by the employer to shorten delivery times, for example), the fine may be paid, in whole or in part, by the employer.

Be careful therefore to provide your motorcycle two-wheelers with a safety vest from next year!

False employees in yellow vest steal works of art

A duo of vandals seized a dozen mosaics of the street artist Invader in broad daylight.

Who are the smart guys, wearing a fluorescent yellow vest, flanked by a large ladder and rolling in Mercedes “who pretend to be agents of the City of Paris” and come to pick up in daylight the works of the street artist Invader?

The question stirred Twitter. Some Parisians, believing that the City was at the origin of this initiative, were offended. Pierre, twists, adds: “2 possibilities: it is about residents who asked to remove it, or they are thieves.” The controversy went back to Jerome Comet, the mayor (PS) of the thirteenth, who knows the artist well and whose works are particularly present in the borough, as well as at the Hotel de Ville.

For several days, this funny crew has been seen attacking the famous mosaics that bloom on the walls of Paris, representing the little guys “Space Invaders” inspired by the video game of 1978. And who can resell expensive… The procedure is peculiar: one of the false agents in yellow reflective vest, perched on a ladder, seeks to take off the work, the other, down, eventually answering the questions of passers-by, like “We are from the City”! When their job is over, the duo goes back to Mercedes!

“At no time was it asked to remove these works”

“At no time was it asked to remove these works,” said one of the spokesmen of the Paris City Hall yesterday, who says on the contrary “in total support to Invader” . The pseudo agents in fluorescent vest have also by the look of the agents of the DPE (Directorate of cleanliness and water) who dressed in green, ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of public space.

“These flights are a problem, regrets Jerome Comet. Moreover, boulevard Saint-Germaine, at the level of Odeon, a condominium, proud to have on its wall a mosaic of the artist, protected it by putting a glass anti-theft! In Paris, many of these works on the walls are incomplete. People are trying to take off without success. The artist, who cannot complain because he sticks his mosaics at night, masked and most of the time without permission, uses, by design, glues more and more powerful!

The yellow vest that has style

Interview conducted as part of the Maker Faire Grenoble 2017. Come meet the makers, Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19, from 10am to 19pm at Alps Congress!

Who are you and what are you doing at the Make Maker?

My name is Baptist Michel, and I present here, a start-up that has existed for 5 years now! This project was born from the idea of redesigning the fluorescent safety vest, which is not very beautiful and not necessarily practical, even if it perfectly fulfills its security function! So we designed a cooler design, graphics, decorations that are pretty and that make you want! Facsimile is also a solidarity economy; everything is “Made in Rhône-Alpes”! All products are manufactured in workshops in which either people with disabilities or people in reintegration work.

Can you present us your products?

Of course! The flagship product is the fluorescent vest, which is the most used, but there are also armbands that attach to the arms or legs, ponchos with retro collars, snoods, scarves, belts etc! We always try to innovate, for example we have a new pocket all reflective and totally waterproof! The cyclist can therefore walk with his essentials (keys, phone …) without them taking the water and with a small wink to the motorists with the message “1m50” on the cover, which reminds them to hold the regulatory distance when passing.

Where can I find the products?

For the moment, we sell our reflective products online on our site, knowing that for Grenoble delivery is free! And if not, we do a lot of “B2B” (business to business), we have partnerships with schools, companies, associations, or even departments. For example, the Dome has bought chasubles with its logo!

Road safety: mandatory yellow vests for bikers

In recent days, a new accessory is featured prominently in the product line for two-wheelers: the safety vest. Mandatory for motorists since 2008, it is now essential for drivers of mopeds, motorcycles and scooters. “This is a classic vest as motorists have in their vehicle for a few years now,” says Stephen Brooches, manager of a store in Limoges in Haute-Vienne.

From 11 to 135 Euros of fine

There was no increase in sales of this vest to wear in case of accident. Offenders are subject to sanctions: 11 Euros fine in case of absence of reflective vest, and 135 Euros if they do not wear it after an emergency stop. A new obligation is that does not please bikers. On the professional side, some have already equipped their scooters.

Wearing a yellow vest: what are the rules

The high visibility vest is now mandatory for bikers. However, they must not wear it permanently. They must have it at hand and put it in case of danger. Since January 1, 2016, every biker must have a “high visibility” vest. However, he does not have to wear it while driving. One year after the entry into force of this regulation, it may be useful to recall the new legal framework. Indeed, neglecting this obligation may expose the rider to a fine.

All types of motorcycles are concerned, regardless of the model and the number of wheels: 2, 3 or 4 wheels. If it is not mandatory to wear it, the safety vest must be with you every day, stored on your motorcycle or on your scooter. If the police control you, you must be able to show it. Otherwise, you will incur a fine of 11 Euros.

A vest with standards

Even though we traditionally speak of a yellow vest, the decree in question (# 2015-514) uses the term “high visibility” vest. Indeed, the text imposes 2 standards for the vest (EN 471 and EN 1150), but several colors. To help you verify compliance, at the time of your purchase, the standard is on the garment label. The yellow vest is the most common and the name “yellow vest” has become generic. However, you can find a range of regulatory colors: red, orange-red, yellow-green, yellow-orange, green and pink. The only absolute rule regarding these colors: they must be fluorescent.

To note

In addition, it must be a vest and not an armband, a belt or reflective strips on the back, pants or motorcycle boots. You can of course decide to put it on you every day. In winter, in fog, snow, rain, you will be sure to be well seen by all road users. We know, on a motorcycle, it’s absolutely essential.

If, on the contrary, the weather is clear and beautiful, the circulation is fluid and without apparent danger, you can leave it in your trunk or your top box. Therefore, like all other road users, it will be imperative to put it if a danger or an emergency occurs. This is the case if you have to stop on the roadside, if you are down in the middle of the road or if you have to take a few steps on the emergency stop strip to reach a terminal.

Safety vest is mandatory for the safety of drivers

They have been mandatory since 2008, for the safety of drivers. However, according to a study conducted for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car rental company, one in four French citizens does not have a safety vest or a pre-signaling triangle in their car.

Karl Lagerfeld had promoted it in 2008, but 9 years later, 24% of French people still do not have in their car the famous yellow vest, to use in case of emergency. This is the result of a study Optimum Institute / Enterprise Holdings, conducted for the car rental Enterprise Rent-A-Car. However, in case of incident, the driver must wear this vest before leaving his vehicle, to be sure of being seen by other motorists.

Priority in the event of an incident: getting safe

With the yellow vest, the legislation also imposes the presence in the vehicle of a pre-signaling triangle, to indicate to other road users the presence of a car stopped on the side of the road. But again, the French do not seem better informed. 22% of respondents say they do not have a triangle in the passenger compartment.

“In emergency situations, the priority is to be safe, to have a yellow vest and a pre-signaling triangle,” recalls Christophe Raymond, director of studies at the Association Prevention Router. road, stop as far as possible from the roadway, put the life jacket on and take all occupants to the right, then secure the incident site, placing it 50 meters upstream of the vehicle, or before a turn “.

135 Euros fine in the absence of vest or triangle

On highway, Christophe Raymond advises to pass quickly behind the barrier, to get in safety. As the vehicle is immobilized on the emergency stop band, it is not necessary to install a pre-signaling triangle. In the absence of the reflective vest and / or the triangle, the offending motorists risk 135 Euros of fine. Note that the driver must also have a breathalyzer in the cabin.

Police training the tractor drivers for Road safety

Four policemen in safety vest spend the week at Agricultural High School training young tractor drivers with rural aspects of the Highway Code. Ride and descend carefully from the cabin, check the weight of the load, check blind spots when maneuvering in reverse … Four police officers, specifically CRS, spend the week at the agricultural school to give road safety courses to students who, for the most part, already drive tractors.

“There is no” tractor “license in France, says Brigadier Jacques Provost. From the age of 16, a youngster can drive a tractor up to 40 tones if he is attached to a farm. In general, they are trained more or less quickly by their parents or the training supervisors. They often take bad habits. We, we come to thwart them! ”

The day alternates theory and practice: “We do not teach them how to use the tractor for work on the farm or in the fields, but we talk to them about the rules of the road to keep the road safety, which they are subjected like all drivers: farmers spend 25 % of their time on the road, the farms are growing, they buy farms in the neighboring villages, etc. Much emphasis is placed on reversing: visual inspection of blind spots and use of mirrors with a towed tool. Every year, there are 15 to 20 accidents in France where farmers crush their children. It’s terrible and the figure does not go down. There is a race for performance with speed and overload. Tractors, in principle limited to 40 tones, sometimes damage the weighbridges intended for 50 tones. They are 60 or 65 tones in fact. There is no technical control for the rolling stock.

“For the overload nobody is in order, confirm the apprentices in BEPA who were trained yesterday. As long as it does not overflow, we charge! Same for the height of the straw, it’s good as long as it goes under the wires. Put on the safety belt, have the gray card, a triangle and a yellow vest in the cabin: the young people smile. “This is the demonstration; you have to look behind, and so on. But if you take that long time to carry the straw boots, the boss will not be very happy. ”
