REFLECTIVE VEST – REMEMBER ABOUT THIS ESPECIALLY!

Autumn and winter is a difficult time for pedestrians and drivers. Especially now, you need to take care of your safety so that you do not risk being accidents safe to move around after dark. The reflective vest costs just a dozen zlotys and effectively improves visibility on the road. Check who should necessarily invest in it!

Even if autumn in the last days, the weather has been spoiling us with warm temperatures, the fogs that appear in the morning and quickly falling dark constantly remind us that we will soon welcome the real autumn. This season of the year rather does not encourage you to wear reflective clothing.

Traditional, dark colors of autumn coats and jackets are conducive to road safety. We are so dressed, visible to the driver at the last moment. A pedestrian or cyclist suddenly grows in front of the hood when the driver has no way to avoid an accident. In the reflective vest with reflective tape for clothing, the visibility improves significantly and is according to experts about 150 m. This distance gives the necessary time to make a maneuver that avoids an accident.

These gadgets can save your life

Sustainable mobility and the increasing difficulties to access the city by car means that more and more people take the bike, the scooter or other alternatives to go from one place to another, especially in short distances. The greater volume of displacements also causes more and more accidents.

Unfortunately, many of these problems can be avoided, and not only by driving responsibly but thanks to technology. There are security lights for bikes and other gadgets that can save your life for a small fee.

Many of them are already available, others are a short-term project. What is clear is that when it comes to guaranteeing your safety, any expense is necessary.

Today we have developed a list of road safety gadgets for bikes, motorcycles, and scooters. Basically, everyone tries to make you visible on the road, avoiding that some clueless driver can run over you.

Some of the solutions are quite original, although they are completely useless before a driver who does not respect the rules.

Tracer 360: the reflective vest taken to another level

When you go by bike on the road at night, the security lights are mandatory if you are interested in your physical integrity. If you also wear a reflective vest with reflective tape for clothing, much better.

However, there is something even more secure: Tracer 360, a gadget mode with LED lights that makes anyone see you from hundreds of meters away.

Lumos Helmet: the case with intermittent

When you drive a bicycle or a scooter, it is also mandatory to signal your movements in the turns. For this, you can use your arms, although at night it will be more difficult for them to see you.

Instead of using classic turn signals, Lumos’ proposal is to integrate reflective material into a connected helmet. You can configure it from your mobile and includes buttons that you can customize to signal your next move.

Be visible! It can decide your life

Autumn is the time when roads become particularly dangerous, due to fast falling dark and morning light. Today another accident was reported, in which a pedestrian was killed. At the moment we do not know its causes, but after each such event comes to a reflection on how to make such a tragedy never touch our loved ones, our children, ourselves.

First of all, we must be aware that the pedestrian is the least protected participant in the road traffic, which in the face of the vehicle has a poor chance of survival because the car hits directly into his body. The car hood, seat belts, and airbags do not protect it.

Secondly, we must be aware that during bad visibility on the road, when the pedestrian is not equipped with reflective vests and is wearing a dark suit, the driver notices him when he is within his range. Then it is often too late and even the immediate reaction of the driver will not save his life.

After dark, the driver driving with the low beam lights on can see the pedestrian from a distance of 20-30 meters from the car bonnet. However, if it travels at a speed exceeding 80-90 km / h, most often there is no chance of avoiding the deduction because it moves at a speed of about 25 meters per second. When the pedestrian is equipped with any reflective material that reflects the light of the car, the driver will notice it already from a distance of 130-150 meters, which is about 5 times faster! The conclusion is obvious: such a small element of our outfit, which is a reflection, can save our lives or the lives of our loved ones!

Reflective elements are obligatory to be worn by all, regardless of age, who move around outside the built-up area after dark. Such an obligation is imposed on them by the Road Traffic Act. The obligation to wear a reflector or reflective clothing which made of reflective fabric is exempt pedestrians moving on the road intended only for pedestrians or on the sidewalk and in the area of residence, where pedestrian takes precedence over the vehicle.

Accidents involving pedestrians occur most often in the evening, from September to December, when the visibility of a person moving on the road is limited. Officers also appeal to drivers for prudence, caution and speed adjustment to road and weather conditions.

“Safe way to school with Ant”

The Ternopol prophylactics summarize “Safe way to school with Ant”.

It was an intense but very nice working time for the policemen of the Department of Prevention and Traffic of the City Headquarters in Tarnow. For over a month, police prophylactics with the mascot company SUFIGS – the great Ant, taught the first graders how to safely reach and return home from school. They also handed out reflective vests, making children aware of the need to wear them while moving along roads at dusk.

Thanks to reflective vests which made by reflective tape for clothing funded by SUFIGS with headquarters in Tarnow, the police, and the ant reached this year up to 2,000 first grade students in 78 primary schools in Tarnow. To meet with children, they traveled 1800 kilometers.

Every day, the police visited several schools where they met with children who in September began their adventure with the school. Everywhere there, they conducted classes, teaching the youngest how to be aware and all safe participants in the road traffic. The colorful ant gave away reflective materials and sweets.

Children learned the basic rules of the road, learned how to cross the street, safekeeping near it, and when traveling by car. First graders also used the acquired information in a practical way, training under the supervision of police officers crossing the road.

Yesterday, on the last day of action, police officers with an ant visited the Primary School. Like everywhere they appeared, they met with an enthusiastic reception of freshmen, who at the sight of the great ant was smiling from ear to ear.

Recall that the action “Safe way to school with an ant” was inaugurated by the Municipal Police Headquarters in 2016. This year, thanks to the huge support of SUFIGS and the purchase of educational materials, it has been expanded to include new schools, covering all first-year students.

Thank you very much to the action partner – SUFIGS, for invaluable help, school principals for openness and kindness, and our beloved children for their commitment and activity during classes – and remember:

REFLECTIVES – they save lives and health!

57% of cyclists ride poorly lit at night!

In town, more than half of cyclists ride on a bike that is not properly lit.

In 2017, 173 cyclists were killed in a road accident in France, 11 more killed than the previous year. These disturbing figures prompted the Association Prevention Routière to reiterate the operation “Being visible by bike”. Last month, free bicycle visibility diagnoses were offered in 10 French cities (Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Lille, Nantes, Grenoble, and Le Havre).

17% of cyclists wear reflective vests

It must be said that today in the city, 57% of cyclists ride at night poorly lit. Only 17% are equipped with reflective clothing or reflective accessories. “The Association Prevention Routière regrets the weakness of this score because the wearing of the vest with reflective tape for clothing or elements of visibility is a way to endorse its risk and responsibility,” says Anne Lava, spokesperson of the Road Prevention.

Police officers focused on pedestrian visibility

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable road users. Therefore, it is important that they follow all the rules of safe behavior and reduce the risk of a traffic accident. One of these important rules is to be well visible under reduced visibility. During autumn and winter, we can often encounter rain, mist or snow in addition to the long darkness.

Decreased visibility can do us more than ever when moving on the road during these two seasons. A low visibility walker with no reflective vests can be almost invisible to other road users until the last minute. Police officers from the Moravian-Silesian Region are advising this pedestrian during this week to check whether the reflective elements or reflective clothing which made of reflective fabrics are used when walking outside the village, but at the same time, they recommend using reflective elements in the village.

Police officers from the Transport Inspectorate, who, during yesterday’s evening at Pollack Street, near the train station, were also involved in pedestrian safety measures to give pedestrians more reflexes. Belts pedestrians gladly welcomed and did not hesitate to use them immediately and place them in a well-visible place. The law on road traffic is remembered for the pedestrians’ movement under reduced visibility. According to him, pedestrians who move without reflective materials outside the village are at a reduced visibility on the roadside or on the edge of the road in a place not illuminated by the public lighting of the fine, up to two thousand Czech crowns.

So you do not get in the fall and winter under the wheels

How to get through the often dull autumn and winter time as safe as possible reveals Siegfried Angier from the police.

“In the autumn and winter months, it is particularly dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists,” warns Siegfried Angier, the deputy police district commander. He is responsible for traffic safety issues of the executive branch. “The early twilight, poor visibility, fog, insufficiently lit paths, and unadapted driving lead to many accidents during this time,” says Angier from many years of practical experience in the police service. He knows some important safety tips for the behavior of pedestrians and cyclists in order to get through the autumn and winter months unscathed.

Make yourself visible

“Ideally, you wear light or reflective clothing,” Angier advises. “Reflective bands, safety vests, and the like increase visibility.” Especially with children and adolescents, it is important that they are clearly visible in the traffic through light or reflective clothing which made of reflective fabric.

That’s the way it is in practice

“A dark-clad pedestrian is perceived by a car driver using low-beam lights only from a distance of 25 to 30 meters,” explains Angier. “Light-clad pedestrians, on the other hand, can be seen from about 50 meters, and additional reflective materials can increase visibility to 130 to 160 meters,” he says.

Avoid danger zones

“Even avoiding poorly lit road sections, if there is no proper sidewalk, is advisable,” says Angier. “Using well-lit junctions where pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles are easily recognizable is essential.”

Also, make the bike fit

Aligner’s final suggestion: “By the way, like his car, you should make your bike winter-ready before you ride it, especially lights, reflectors, brakes, and tires.”

Presentation of fluorescent vests to middle school students

The county council gives fluorescent vests to college students to be better pedestrians, cyclists or waiting for the bus in the evening and morning.

Jean-Paul and Marie-Claire Malraux, departmental councilors, the young departmental counselor, to give the vests to the students of the college. It is in the presence of the principal Alain and his assistant Benedict that the young people tried the vests with reflective materials.

Since its creation in 1992, the departmental youth council has undertaken several projects dealing with road safety. The idea is to alert college students to the need to wear a retro reflective safety vest to be visible in all circumstances day and night.

Thus, 5000 yellow vests were distributed to the students of the 42 public and private colleges of the Tarn. Three sizes of vests were proposed to allow each student to find the best fit for his size, small, medium and large. The yellow vest which made of reflective fabric saves the life because it is visible to motorists.

Safe on the way to school

Thanks to an initiative of the ADAC Foundation, the way to school for some 90 children at the Max Metzger School will be a little safer.

Bright yellow safety vests

For many years, the bright yellow warning vests, which the automobile club is giving out free of charge to Germany’s youngest schoolchildren at the start of the dark season, have been helping against the poor visibility and road conditions.

In Schopfheim, MSC chairman Karlheinz Renner ted the vests these days. The teacher Regina Hauser received the vest on behalf of all other primary school students and showed on this occasion that they know exactly why they should wear the reflective vests with reflective tapes: “Because we as the motorists as pedestrians or as a bicycle and Scooter drivers are seen much better. ”

Can be seen 120 meters away

In fact, experiments have shown that children in normal street clothes are not seen until ten to twelve meters from the motor vehicles. This is much better with the vest, as Karlheinz Renner emphasized: “The girls and boys wear vests with reflective fabrics can be seen at distances of up to 120 meters.”

It would be worthwhile to cover the jackets, even if they do not necessarily correspond to the current fashion. Parents should turn a blind eye to the safety of their children. And also to further motivate the ADAC to spend the vest. Because it looks like Renner assured: “It will probably have been the last action of this kind in Germany”. The headmaster and teacher think that would be a pity.

How to get through the winter safely

Dusseldorf Police Dusseldorf gives tips for seniors and children: Reflective clothing helps.

In winter it is – mostly anyway – dark and cold. Due to the darkness, it is on the streets not only for motorists but also for pedestrians and cyclists much more dangerous to be on the road. On Friday, the police gave Joachim Tabatha and Michael tips for seniors and children. It was all about the visibility in the dark. All ages can benefit from the tips.

Reflective clothing is visible up to 140 meters.

Luminous clothing has been known for decades for its silvery reflective tapes and its yellow or orange main color. Reflective clothing is visible up to 140 meters in the car’s headlight, which is a significant difference compared to dark clothing (25 meters) and light clothing (40 meters). Reflectors work as follows: The white silver strips have about 15,000 glass balls per square centimeter, which are mirrored on one side. This causes reflected light to be reflected back to the source.

Especially seniors are frequent accident victims. According to Joachim, 66 pedestrians died in traffic accidents in Düsseldorf between 2006 and 2018, of whom 41 were older than 65 – that is 62% of deaths. In the darkness, however, only 16 of the deaths were due. This reflects the lifestyle of many seniors: they often do not go out after dark. Nevertheless, they belong to a risk group. Here are more tips:

There are shopping bags that are made of the same material as the reflective vest. In addition, handy “mini-reflectors” help. The small stripes are about five inches tall and can be attached to all zippers.
