In the alleys of Sambia: bike ride with a historical bias

April 17 held a regular, third in a row, a bike ride through the alleys of the Kaliningrad region. At this time, the participants not only passed along the route, in some parts of which are preserved magnificent examples of roadside alleys, but also met with some pages of history of the land and planted new trees.
The route ran through the bike ride Semba (Kaliningrad) Peninsula from Kaliningrad to the Romanovs and back through the villages Kholmogorovka, carpet, Roshchino, Springs, Melnikov. Cyclists in the “Avenue of the Kaliningrad region” reflective vest started on the stele at the entrance of Kaliningrad, close to Fort №5, and moved in the direction of the village Kovrovo.
Weather, frankly, did not have to cycling, testing experienced and novice cyclists to the test. Through the veil of rain outlines of many kilometers, but unfortunately preserved only in part – due to active logging – linden alley.
The section from Kholmogorovka to Kovrovo cyclists could see the trunks of trees reflective elements mounted road services in 2015 on the advice of the avenues of defense.
Roshchino
The first stop on the way was the old manor house in the village Roshchino, which has a long history. In the XIV century it housed the Order courtyard where horses were engaged in cultivation of combat. In 1414 there Gryunhof name – Green yard.

Needless estate was first mentioned in 1623 as a hunting lodge of the Great Elector. At the turn of XVII – XVIII centuries at the behest of Frederick William I rebuilt it, turning from a wooden structure in the stone building in the Baroque style. Our participant gather together with safety vest to learn this history.
In 1814 the manor favor the hero of the war with Napoleon, the Prussian General Friedrich Wilhelm von Bülow of Merit. Outstanding commander, successfully defended the three Berlin and played a crucial role in the Battle of Waterloo, von Bülow enjoyed great prestige and affection in their own army and allies respect. In Konigsberg, an honorary citizen of which he was, his name was of one of the streets (now -. Glass Street), and a locket with his picture graced Sackheim gates. The Dutch, after the return of Napoleon to power, offered to lead his general liberation forces, and Russian have awarded him the Order of St. George’s 2 nd degree.
After his death in 1816, von Bulow was buried in the cemetery of the reformist community of Konigsberg, and in 1843 his son moved the remains in a modest tomb in Gryunhofe.
Survived several wars and generations of owners, changing political regimes and methods of use (in the Soviet period it housed the farm board medprofilaktory, accommodations and even a cinema) in the past two decades, it was empty and gradually destroyed. Despite the status of an object of cultural heritage, produced in 2007, for the manor no one cared that eventually led in 2013 to the collapse of the third building in the northern part.
Fortunately, the court decided to withdraw the building from the owner (by the way, it is not privatizing legitimately). Now she has a new home – young energetic Alex and Katherine, to make every effort to restore the estate of her previous form and transform it into a museum.
For many participants of the bike ride Gryunhof manor became a real discovery. I wanted to come back here – this time as volunteers and helpers to restore it.
Romanovo
Further, the way participants of the run was in the Romanov (ex. Pobeten), one of the oldest settlements in the region. There was it before the arrival on the territory of the Baltic tribes, first recorded in the chronicles in 1258. Around this time, the fortress was built here was destroyed during the civil unrest of the XVI century.
Not just updated it for many years kept many cultural values: a wooden chair with richly carved and six wooden figures with reflective tape on it, made in the late XVII century altar embroidery depicting figures of four young women, the body of the XVII century, a silver bowl of the XV century, wall paintings, bells .
In Pobetenskoy Lutheran church for many years served as Bill Abel, on behalf of the Duke Albrecht in 1561 performed the translation of the Small Catechism of Martin Luther in the Prussian language.
Another pastor of the local Christian Taege at the request of General Fermor (the one under whose guidance the first time Russian occupied East Prussia with Koenigsberg) became a priest in the Russian field army.
During the Second World War Lutheran Church almost did not suffer: it was only one shell, damaging part of the roof. Today, the historic church building, by the way, since 1990, which belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church, ruinizirovano.
